Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Review

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is here to take the body and design category to the next level with its “Edgy” design. The screen is extended towards the edges to provide more functionality to the phone and ease up on checking notifications.

The body is made up of metal protected by gorilla glass which is a revolutionary step for Samsung phones as they were always criticised for cheap plastic bodies even for their flagship phones.

The screen is a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED capacitive Touch screen,16M colours which offers a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels(~577 ppi pixel density). It is protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which is expected because the screen is curved in the edges and is prone to damage.

It runs android OS, v5.0.2(lollipop) and will be upgraded regularly. Samsung has equipped it with their Exynos 7420 chipset with Quad-core 1.5GHz Cortex-A52 & Quad-core 2.1Ghz Cortex A-57 processors. The octa-core processor can run high end apps without any lag as it is supported by 3 GB of latest DDR4 RAM.

The rear camera is a 16MP with a resolution of 2988×5312 pixels which records videos at 2169@30fps,1080p@60fps and 720p@120fps. It also has features like auto HDR, optical image stabilization which you can find in high end phones.

The secondary camera is a 5MP which records full HD video and alsp has a feature of dual video calling.

There is no memory card slot in this device, just like S6. It comes in three variant models of 32,64 and 128 GB with prices accordingly. The 32 GB model starts at 58,900INR.

The 3GB RAM is the latest DDR4 which supports the octa core processor.

  • Wireless Charging

Charge your phone wirelessly with the in-built wireless charging feature.

  • Super Charging

The battery now charges at a higher rate such as 30% in just 10 minutes.

  • Samsung Pay

Payments can easily made by using the Samsung Pay with NFC technology. It is not applicable in every country.

  • Finger Print Scanner

Keep your phone secure by using the authentic finger print scanner placed on the home screen button.

The battery is non removable Li-ion 2600 mAh battery which can be charged wirelessly and on Ultra Power saving mode, calls and texts can be made as it can sustain for a long period.

The new design may be appealing but the edge comes at a high expense. The phone is basically just like the Galaxy S6 in the field of performance and specifications but costs more because of the edge.

The design may worry some users as if they drop the phone, the screen might get damaged or scratched. Though it is protected by Gorilla Glass 4, it may worry the users.

The bottom of the phone looks like Apple’s new Iphone 6 design.

The phone is already out on online shopping sites. It comes in Black, Gold and White which do not vary in price.

Overall it is a powerful device and gives a tough competition to the brands like Apple, HTC and Sony. Where some may say that the extended screen is an unnecessary feature added just to increase the price, some may admire its elegant and innovative design.
